Young drivers of Volkswagen Polo R Cup 2013 sweat it out in the Fitness Camp before they face the heat of competition

– Cardio Exercises, Weight Training, Mix Martial Arts, Suspension Training with TRX, Water Polo, Football, Yoga and Meditation help Volkswagen Polo R Cup 2013 drivers learn the various ways to strengthen their body and mind

– Other sessions such as Sponsorship & Marketing, Rules & Regulations of the sport and Technical Workshop were conducted over the weekend to prepare the drivers build their racing careers


Greater Noida, May 12, 2013: Volkswagen Motorsport India conducted a two–day pre–season camp for Polo R Cup 2013 drivers over the weekend at Jaypee Greens Sports Complex. This camp was designed keeping in mind the overall requirements of a professional racer. Through this programme, the drivers underwent various activities that focussed on physical & mental fitness, theories on technical aspects of racing and the business of motorsports.

The fitness activities, conducted under the guidance of professional trainers from ABS Fitness & Wellness Club, provided the drivers with sessions on Cardio Exercises, Mix Martial Arts, Suspension Training, Weight Training and other group sports like Football and Water Polo. To help drivers improve their concentration, they were made to undergo mental fitness exercises like Yoga and Meditation. The drivers also underwent detailed medical assessment to help them know their current level of fitness. They were advised about their areas of improvement and that they should continue the activities taught in the camp, through the season to stay strong and fit for the enduring races.

“This is our fourth season of Polo R Cup and as per our international motorsport standards, we conducted this Drivers’ Camp to help them prepare for the race season ahead. Activities in this camp were designed keeping in the mind that racing, as a sport, can be very strenuous on the body and requires high levels of concentration”, said Prithviraj Siddappa, Head of Volkswagen Motorsport India. Experts guided the young racers on how they can follow a regime of physical & mental exercises and what kind of nutrition & diet they need to follow to stay ahead in the competition.

“The fitness camp was a really powerful tool to understand the need of fitness in motorsport. It helped us to identify our weaknesses and showed us the ways in which we could work to improve them. It was the perfect way to prepare before the season begins and we now have a plan on how to improve our stamina for the demanding races to come”, was the unanimous response of the Volkswagen Polo R Cup drivers from across the country who attended this camp.
